Microsoft brings back developer behind Word and Excel – Apr. 18, 2017
Charles Simonyi, a legendary early Microsoft employee who helped create some of its most iconic products, is returning to the company after more than a decade away.Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) announced Tuesday it has agreed to acquire Simonyi’s startup, Intentional Software, to help advance its productivity tools. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.”I am excited, stoked, amped, and elated to join forces again with Microsoft,” Simonyi wrote in a post Tuesday.Simonyi joined Microsoft in 1981 and oversaw development of products like Microsoft Word and Excel. He left in 2002 to launch Intentional Software, whoch focuses on ”reinventing productivity software” for the ”modern workplace.”

Ordning och reda på dina urklipp
Pastebot är ett program för din Mac för att hålla reda på dina urklipp – alla de där länkarna, textbitarna och allt annat som du klipper ut och vill ha kvar.
Pastebot kan lagra flera urklipp så att du kan plocka fram dem i efterhand, skicka dem vidare eller dela dem. Via iCloud så kan du även dela dem med din iPhone, iPad och andra datorer. Det här är faktiskt ett smått suveränt litet program för dig som klipper och klistrar ofta och mycket. Det är väl värt de 10 dollar det kostar att köpa.
Pastebot saves everything you copy so that you can quickly recall them in the future. Save and organize frequently-used clippings into custom pasteboards and create keyboard shortcuts to access pasteboards and paste specific clippings. Build filters with a live preview and apply them as you paste. Create keyboard shortcuts to quickly paste using your filters and export your filters to share with other Pastebot users. Pastebot is there when you need it and invisible when you dont. Quickly access your clippings from any app and search, preview, or filter clippings before pasting. You can even set the order of clippings to paste in sequence.
With iCloud enabled, your main clipboard, custom pasteboards and filters sync across all of your computers running Pastebot. Your clipboard and filters will be on every mac you work on. Create custom pasteboard groups to organize important clippings you want to save and re-use. Assign keyboard shortcuts to clippings you use most often. macOS Sierras Universal Clipboard works alongside Pastebot. Copy a clipping in Pastebot and paste it on your iOS device via Universal Clipboard.

Apple Readies iPhone Overhaul for Smartphones 10th Anniversary – Bloomberg
Ten years after Steve Jobs held up the original iPhone to a gushing San Francisco crowd, Apple Inc. is planning its most extensive iPhone lineup to date.Apple is preparing three iPhones for launch as soon as this fall, including upgraded versions of the current two iPhone models and a new top-of-the-line handset with an overhauled look, according to people familiar with the matter. For the redesigned phone, Apple is testing a new type of screen, curved glass and stainless steel materials, and more advanced cameras, the people said. Those anxiously awaiting the redesigned iPhone, however, may have to wait because supply constraints could mean the device isn’t readily available until one or two months after the typical fall introduction.
The iPhone is Apples most important product, representing about two-thirds of sales. It also leads customers to buy other Apple devices like the iPad and Apple Watch, and serves as a home for lucrative services like the App Store. This year’s new iPhone lineup comes at a critical time. Last year, Apple broke its typical upgrade cycle by retaining the same iPhone shape for a third year in a row and endured a rare sales slide. Samsung Electronics Co.’s new S8 lineup has also been thus far well received after last year’s Note 7 battery debacle.

Apple gör upp i patenttvist
Juryn var utsedd, förhandlingen var bokad och med bara några timmars marginal så nådde Apple och Unwired Planet en uppgörelse i patenttvisten mellan bolagen.
Unwired Planet är det bolag som köpte upp ett stort antal av Ericssons tidigare patent, 2013. Ericsson har fortfarande intressen i bolaget och får 20 procent av eventuella uppgörelser.
In 2015, Judge Chhabria ruled that Apple didn’t infringe the four patents at issue in the case. Chhabria’s ruling was mostly overturned on appeal (PDF) last July, leading to the jury trial that was set to start yesterday.
In addition to suing Apple, Unwired Planet also sued Google, Microsoft, and Square in the US. The company also took the unusual step of suing Google, Samsung, and Huawei in London, a nontraditional venue for non-practicing entity lawsuits. Unwired Planet’s stock jumped 20 percent after it beat Samsung and Huawei in the UK.
