The House passed a bill Monday evening that would criminalize using a person’s likeness to create nonconsensual deepfake pornography.

The Take It Down Act sailed through the chamber on a vote of 402-2, marking one of the first major pieces of legislation passed by Congress to address AI-generated deepfakes.

The bill makes it a federal crime to publicize nonconsensual imagery of others, both real and AI-generated, and requires companies to remove any images hosted or shared on their platforms within 48 hours of receiving notice. It also empowers the Federal Trade Commission to investigate and enforce compliance.

A version of the Take It Down Act has already passed the Senate, and is now just a presidential signature away from becoming law.

Instagram is blocking minors from accessing AI Studio, its user-generated chatbot character platform, as of at least Tuesday morning according to 404 Media’s tests.

404 Media attempted to access AI Studio using multiple accounts that identified as minors (meaning, the birthdates at signup would place them at under 18 years of age). Instead of the AI Studio page for creating or discovering chatbots, an error message appears: “Sorry, this page isn’t available. The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed.” AI Studio is still available for adult users, according to 404 Media’s tests with accounts that are over 18.

Hackers working for governments were responsible for the majority of attributed zero-day exploits used in real-world cyberattacks last year, per new research from Google.

Google’s report said that the number of zero-day exploits — referring to security flaws that were unknown to the software makers at the time hackers abused them — had dropped from 98 exploits in 2023 to 75 exploits in 2024. But the report noted that of the proportion of zero-days that Google could attribute — meaning identifying the hackers who were responsible for exploiting them — at least 23 zero-day exploits were linked to government-backed hackers.

China on Monday once again denied that it is in talks to resolve its tariff war with the U.S., after a series of statements by President Donald Trumpand his aides suggesting trade negotiations were underway.

“Let me make it clear one more time that China and the U.S. are not engaged in any consultation or negotiation on tariffs,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a press conference.
