The richest university in the world has decided that some things are more important than money.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration threatened to revoke $9 billion in federal grants and contracts if Harvard did not agree to a long list of demands, including screening foreign applicants “hostile to the American values and institutions” and allowing an external body to audit university departments for viewpoint diversity. (How screening international students for their beliefs would contribute to viewpoint diversity was not specified.) Today, Harvard announced that it would not agree to the Trump administration’s terms. “Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government,” the university’s lawyers wrote in a letter to administration officials. “Accordingly, Harvard will not accept the government’s terms as an agreement in principle.”

The music-streaming app Spotify is down, leaving millions of music fans in the lurch. The company is aware of an issue and says it’s checking things out. To that end, we don’t know why it’s down or how long the service will remain unavailable. It looks like both the app and web client aren’t working right now.

The Trump administration has said it is freezing more than $2bn (£1.5bn) in federal funds for Harvard University, hours after the elite college rejected a list of demands from the White House.
The White House sent a list of demands to Harvard last week which it said were designed to fight antisemitism on campus. They included changes to its governance, hiring practices and admissions procedures.
Since Donald Trump was re-elected, his government has tried to reshape elite universities by threatening to withhold federal funds, mostly spent on research.

A new report from Business Korea claims Apple has made a key decision for its rumored foldable iPhone, choosing Samsung Display as the exclusive supplier for the device’s OLED panels. The much anticipated smartphone could launch as early as late next year, and this reported deal would notably leave competitors like LG Display and BOE out of the initial run.
The reason behind leaning solely on Samsung? Their established tech for minimizing screen creases appears to be the critical factor, according to the report. Samsung Display is apparently gearing up to start mass production either late this year or early in 2025. ”For Apple, which prioritizes quality over price when selecting component suppliers, Samsung was the only viable choice,” an industry insider mentioned, pointing to Samsung’s half-dozen years working on foldable OLEDs since the first Galaxy Fold.

There’s another development in the saga that is governments accusing Google of monopolistic practices favoring its search app and Chrome. The Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) has issued a cease and desist order to Google, demanding the tech company end all efforts to gain preferential treatment on Android phones.
The watchdog alleges that Google required phone makers to preinstall Chrome and Google Search on Android phones — along with setting Chrome as the default browser. It also claims they had to place the icons for each app on the home screen. This arrangement came due to the tech company’s power as provider of the Google Play app ecosystem, which Android manufacturers need to install before distribution.

In its attempts to make the iPhone Fold a reality, Apple has reportedly decided to use Samsung Display to produce the foldable OLED screens for the project.
The screen is arguably the most important part of the iPhone Fold, as a component that practically defines how the device functions. It seems that Apple has narrowed down the source of the screen to Samsung Display for its first foldable release.
According to sources of Business Korea, Apple has finally made the decision to go with Samsung Display as its foldable screen supplier. While Apple does work with other suppliers for its products, including LG Display and BOE, it will only be using Samsung for its folding device screens for the moment.
