Apple Inc is optimistic that some of its popular apps removed from its China App Store this year to comply with government requests will be reinstated, the U.S. tech giant’s Chief Executive Tim Cook said on Wednesday.
Cook, speaking at the Fortune Forum in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, also stressed that he believes strongly in freedoms, in comments after a U.S. democratic senator’s remarks on Tuesday that Apple had a moral obligation to promote free expression.

Quentin Tarantino could helm the next Star Trek film, according to sources who spoke to Deadline. Tarantino has shared his pitch on the long-running sci-fi franchise with producer J.J. Abrams, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The two plan to convene a writers room to develop the film at Paramount, with Tarantino in the director’s chair.
Does that mean we’re about to get a R-rated Star Trek scored by Wu Tang Clan’s RZA? That’s doubtful, considering the nature of the series. But, there’s also been no word on a path for the franchise since Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond (the third in the rebooted universe) bowed in July 2016.

Another day, another lawsuit
CHIPMAKER Qualcomm has responded to the news of Apple’s countersuit by attempting to get the iPhone X banned in the US.
On Thursday, just hours after Apple filed a suit alleging that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips infringe on eight of its battery patents, the tit-for-tat battle stepped up a notch with the launch of three new lawsuits.
These lawsuits allege that Apple is infringing 16 Qualcomm patents with the iPhone 7, 8, and X that run on AT&T and T-Mobile in the US, as well as the bigger-screened Plus models.
