The UK has substantially increased its hacking capabilities in recent years, an official report says.
This includes the ability to attack other country’s communications, weapons systems and even infrastructure.
The details were revealed in the annual report of the Intelligence and Security Committee, whoch oversees the work of intelligence agencies.

Suspected Russia-linked Twitter accounts were used to ”extend the impact and harm” of four 2017 terrorist attacks in the UK, a study says.
Cardiff University researchers have found hundreds of related messages in 47 accounts previously tied to Russia.
Some posts were anti-Muslim in nature, while others were critical of those who held such views, they report.
Moscow has not commented but has denied past claims it sought to meddle in Western democracies via social media.

The past 10 years have made it clear that the internet – both the software that powers it and the software that runs on top of it – are fair game for attackers. The past five years have made it clear that nobody has internalised this message as well as the global intelligence community. The Snowden leakspulled back the curtains on massive Five Eyes efforts in this regard, from muted deals with internet behemoths, to amusing grab-all efforts like grabbing still images from Yahoo webcam chats.

U.S. data center group Equinix Inc on Monday said it was buying Australian data center company Metronode from the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in an all-cash deal worth A$1.035 billion ($791.15 million).
Metronode operates internet and communications infrastructure facilities throughout Australia for some of the country’s largest corporations, government agencies, telecommunications and IT service providers.

A new patent unearthed today shows how Apple is working to make improvements Siri and its core capabilities. Apple originally filed for the patent in 2016, but it was just made public today
Essentially, this patent covers how Siri could detect when a user is whispering and subsequently “whisper” all of its replies…..
As first reported by Gizmodo, Apple writes in the patent that it governs “a digital assistant that is capable of detecting a whispered speech input and providing a whispered speech response.”
