Iranian hackers used female ’honey pot’ to lure targets: researchers
LAS VEGAS (Reuters) – Hackers believed to be working for the Iranian government have impersonated a young female photographer on social media for more than a year, luring men working in industries strategically important to Tehran’s regional adversaries, according to research published Thursday. The so-called Mia Ash persona has been active on sites including LinkedIn, Facebook Inc (FB.O), WhatsApp and Blogger since at least April of last year, researchers at Dell SecureWorks said.
The campaign showed Iran engaged in a social engineering plot to ensnare its targets with a ”honey pot”, a classic espionage trap often involving seduction, more commonly used by criminal hackers.

You can thank Stormtroopers for the look of Apple AirPods | TechRadar
I hate to break it to you, but if youve worn a pair of Apple EarPods or AirPods recently, you were tacitly supporting the Empire you know, that military group from Star Wars that tried to control the universe through fear and exploitation. In what has to be one of the strangest conversations about the mash-up of Apple and Star Wars, well, ever, Apple design lead Jony Ive told Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams that his primary inspiration for Apples iconic in-ear headphones were none other than Stormtroopers. This strange tidbit of information appeared in an interview in The Wall Street Journal where Ive was describing his design inspirations over the years. Crazy as it sounds, however, it sort of makes sense.

Perverse malware infecting hundreds of Macs remained undetected for years | Ars Technica
A mysterious piece of malware that gives attackers surreptitious control over webcams, keyboards, and other sensitive resources has been infecting Macs for at least five years. The infectionsknown to number nearly 400 and possibly much higherremained undetected until recently and may have been active for almost a decade.FURTHER READINGNewly discovered Mac malware found in the wild also works well on LinuxPatrick Wardle, a researcher with security firm Synack, said the malware is a variant of a malicious program that came to light in January after circulating for at least two years. Dubbed Fruitfly by some, both malware samples capture screenshots, keystrokes, webcam images, and information about each infected Mac. Both generations of Fruitfly also collect information about devices connected to the same network. After researchers from security firm Malwarebytes discovered the earlier Fruitfly variant infecting four Macs, Apple updated macOS to automatically detect the malware.
