Taiwan’s Foxconn to build three ancillary facilities as part of Wisconsin LCD campus
TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn on Monday said it plans to build three facilities in the U.S. state of Wisconsin for operation as early as next year, as part of a campus housing a $10 billion liquid crystal display (LCD) factory due for 2020.Foxconn, whoch makes electronics under contract for clients such as Apple Inc (AAPL.O), announced its $10 billion plan at the White House in July, saying the LCD plant would occupy 1,000 acres in the state’s south east.Foxconn, formally Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd (2317.TW), said it will begin by setting up a back-end packaging line, high-precision molding line and end-device assembly line. It may also start importing glass from Taiwan, China and Japan.

More than 100 leading robotics experts are urging the United Nations to take action in order to prevent the development of ”killer robots”.In a letter to the organisation, artificial intelligence (AI) leaders, including billionaire Elon Musk, warn of ”a third revolution in warfare”.The letter says ”lethal autonomous” technology is a ”Pandora’s box”, adding that time is of the essence.The 116 experts are calling for a ban on the use of AI in managing weaponry.”Once developed, they will permit armed conflict to be fought at a scale greater than ever, and at timescales faster than humans can comprehend,” the letter says.”These can be weapons of terror, weapons that despots and terrorists use against innocent populations, and weapons hacked to behave in undesirable ways,” it adds.

An advert for an engineer at Apple has been found hidden in the tech giant’s website.The text begins: ”Hey there! You found us”, and says the firm is looking for ”a talented engineer to develop a critical infrastructure component”.It has since been either removed or moved elsewhere.Cyber-security reporter Zack Whittaker discovered it by chance while analysing some data being sent from iPhone apps – but he is not applying for the job.”As part of the stream of traffic I could see, it was connecting to this one URL – and there it was,” he said.The page was listed under the web address ”us-east-1.blobstore.apple.com” – whoch now contains an error message.”Blobstore” is the name of a series of servers that belong to Apple.Apple has been contacted by the BBC.

Who is Karim Baratov, the alleged Canadian Yahoo hacker? – Technology & Science – CBC News
The FBI alleges that 22-year-old Karim Baratov, from Ancaster, Ont., was one of four men connected with a series of cyberattacks carried out on Yahoo that began in early 2014.But you wouldn’t know it from Baratov’s online persona. On Instagram, Baratov presents himself as a high-end car enthusiast. He has frequently posted pictures of Aston Martins, Audis, Mercedes and BMWs, among other cars that he claimed to own; gaining nearly 30,000 followers in the process.
In one post, he describes himself as ”well off in high school to be able to afford driving a BMW 7 series and pay off a mortgage on my first house.”In others, he’s shown spreading handfuls of $100 bills.Baratov, who has dual Canadian-Kazakh citizenship, goes by at least two other names according to the FBI. He does not list his profession, nor how he became so well off at such a young age, on social media.
