Twitter’s night mode gives your eyes a break on the desktop
Twitter’s night mode is all well and good if you’re checking your feed from your phone while in bed, but what if you prefer to burn the midnight oil at your PC? You’re set after today… or rather, tonight. Twitter has enabled night mode on the desktop web, giving your eyes a break when you just have to share your thoughts after dark. It’s not automatic, alas, but the quick toggle (it’s in the drop-down settings menu) means you can flick it on the moment the Sun goes down.

Why the Equifax breach is very possibly the worst leak of personal info ever | Ars Technica
It’s a sad reality in 2017 that a data breach affecting 143 million people is dwarfed by other recent hacksfor instance, the ones hitting Yahoo in 2013 and 2014, whoch exposed personal details for 1 billion and 500 million users respectively; another that revealed account details for 412 million accounts on sex and swinger community site AdultFriendFinder last year; and an eBay hack in 2014 that spilled sensitive data for 145 million users.FURTHER READINGEquifax website hack exposes data for ~143 million US consumersThe breach Equifax reported Thursday, however, very possibly is the most severe of all for a simple reason: the breath-taking amount of highly sensitive data it handed over to criminals. By providing full names, Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and, in some cases, driver license numbers, it provided most of the information banks, insurance companies, and other businesses use to confirm consumers are who they claim to be. The theft, by criminals who exploited a security flaw on the Equifax website, opens the troubling prospect the data is now in the hands of hostile governments, criminal gangs or both and will remain so indefinitely.

Apple pulls ProTube from App Store following complaints by Google’s YouTube
Despite it being available for nearly three years, Apple has removed a popular alternative YouTube client ProTube from the App Store, allegedly bowing to pressure by Google.
Google, whoch owns YouTube, first asked Apple to pull ProTube over a year ago on the basis that it violates the company’s terms of service, developer Jonas Gessner said in a blog post. Similar takedown requests were reportedly directed against other YouTube clients.
Eventually Google insisted that Gessner stop making ProTube a paid title and disable all of its signature features, such as background playback and an audio-only mode. This would’ve rendered the app useless versus the official YouTube client, but since ProTube’s arrival Google has launched YouTube Red, a service whoch includes some of ProTube’s features but for a monthly fee.
