When longtime Baltimore activists first saw a Facebook account called Blacktivist organizing a local police brutality march, they were immediately suspicious. The page honoring Freddie Gray, who had died in police custody a year earlier, quickly acquired a sizable following, but no one knew who was running it.Heber Brown III, a pastor and community organizer, messaged Blacktivist asking if the person lived in Baltimore. No, replied Blacktivist on 15 April 2016. But there are people in Baltimore. Volunteers. We are looking for friendship, because we are fighting for the same reasons.

With a whirling buzz from 18 rotors, the pilot-less helicopter gently lifted off the ground and soared up into the afternoon sky, the spire of the world’s tallest building visible behind it.The recent unmanned flight by the German-made electric Volocopter represents the latest step in Dubai’s pursuit of flying taxis.Dubai already has invested in another model of a flying, autonomous taxi, and is working to design regulations for their use. Putting more passengers in the air could free its already clogged highways and burnish the city’s cutting-edge image of itself.”It’s public transportation for everybody, so you can use, you can order it, you can pay for the trip and the trip is not much more expensive than with a car,” said Alexander Zosel, Volocopter’s co-founder.

Net ’not ready’ for vital security update – BBC News
A plan to update the security around some of the net’s core address books has been delayed.Net administrative body Icann put its plans on hold after it emerged that some ISPs and large firms were not ready to make the change. It feared that tens of millions would lose net access if the change went ahead as planned on 11 October.Icann said it was working with ISPs to update software and ensure everyone is ready to switch next year.”It would be irresponsible to proceed with the roll [out] after we have identified these new issues that could adversely affect its success and could adversely affect the ability of a significant number of end users,” said Goran Marby, head of Icann.

Security firm finds some Macs vulnerable to ’firmware’ attacks
(Reuters) – Since 2015, Apple Inc (AAPL.O) has tried to protect its Mac line of computers from a form of hacking that is extremely hard to detect, but it has not been entirely successful in getting the fixes to its customers, according to research released on Friday by Duo Security.Duo examined what is known as firmware in the Mac computers. Firmware is an in-built kind of software that is even more basic than an operating system like Microsoft Windows or macOS.When a computer is first powered on — before the operating system has even booted up — firmware checks to make sure that basic components like a hard disk and processor are present and tells them what to do. That makes malicious code hiding in it hard to spot.
