Fake Adblock Plus extension takes the shine off Chromes reputation for security | TechRadar
In a clear lesson about the potential dangers involved with browser add-ons, a fake copy of a popular ad-blocking Chrome extension has tricked an estimated 37,000 users of the browser into downloading it.The phony Adblock Plus extension used the exact same name as the genuine add-on in the Chrome web store save for the fact that it was written as AdBlock, with a capital B whoch most folks wouldnt have noticed and the same developer name. Also, users wouldnt necessarily have spotted a problem scanning the feedback, as there were a good amount of reviews for the dodgy product. But the fact is that the extension was a fake, and naturally as soon as it was spotted by SwiftOnSecurity and flagged up to Google, the offending add-on was removed from the Chrome store.

Slow iPhone? Don’t Blame Apple. Blame Your Apps | WIRED
EACH YEAR, FALL ushers in a few certainties. Leaves change color and fall gently to the ground. Pumpkin spice flavors turn up in unlikely foodstuffs. And iPhone owners feel pretty sure that Apple has intentionally slowed down their smartphone, in a dastardly attempt to get them to upgrade to the latest model. That last one? Its not a thing.Hue and cry about Apples planned obsolescence has burbled up for years, at one point gracing even the pages of The New York Times Magazine. But a new look at historic iPhone performance data disproves the notion for good. Does your iPhone run a little slower than it used to, just in time for the iPhone 8? Maybe. If youre blaming Apple, though, youre barking up the wrong corporate monolith.

Sweden Supreme Court: Don’t Presume Prison Sentences For Pirates – TorrentFreak
In the wake of a case involving the administrator of a now-defunct private torrent tracker, Sweden’s Supreme Court has handed down an important ruling. Following requests from prosecutors seeking jail sentences for copyright infringement, the Court has ruled that the offense is not one where the presumed sentence should be imprisonment. The trend over the past several years is for prosecutors to present copyright infringement offenses as serious crimes, often tantamount to those involving theft of physical goods. This has resulted in many cases across the United States and Europe where those accused of distributing or assisting in the distribution of copyrighted content face the possibility of custodial sentences. Over in Sweden, prosecutors have homed in on one historical case in order to see where the boundaries lie.

Regeringskansliets IT-support drabbad i hackerhärvan | SVT Nyheter
