Reuters) – EBay Inc warned Wall Street on Wednesday that profit this quarter could fall below analysts’ estimates as it invests in marketing and a revamped website to attract more shoppers, sending shares down more than 5 percent in after-hours trade.File photo – The eBay app is seen on a mobile phone in this illustration photo October 16, 2017. REUTERS/Thomas White/IllustrationThe online marketplace is making a big push to catch up to Amazon.com Inc with three-day guaranteed delivery and a more user-friendly website, hoping to distinguish itself as a haven for specialty items rather than commodity products. It said marketing expenses rose by nearly 5 percent in the third quarter from a year earlier, as it got that message across to potential customers.Factoring in the higher costs, eBay forecast fourth-quarter adjusted profit, excluding some costs, of between 57 cents and 59 cents per share. On that basis, analysts on average were expecting a profit of 59 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

New survey shows CarPlay support becoming a ‘must have’ for many iPhone users | 9to5Mac

Since its release three years ago, CarPlay has been gradually expanding with more car manufacturers signing on to support the feature every year. Now, a new report from Strategy Analytics offers a bit more information on consumer interest in CarPlay…The survey found that, in the United States, 23 percent of smartphone users view CarPlay as a “must have” for their next car purchase. 56 percent of respondents said that they are “interested” in the technology for their next car, while 21 percent said they aren’t interested.Somewhat surprisingly, interest is a bit tamer in the United States than it is elsewhere around the world. In Europe, 25 percent see CarPlay as a must have, while 36 percent of smartphone users in China say it’s a must have.On a broader scale, “no fewer than 30 percent” of consumers said that they are willing to pay for an in-car smartphone mirroring feature as long as it’s at a reasonable price point.

Han Solo standalone Star Wars movie gets a name: ’Solo’ – CNET

blank

Ron Howard has been sharing photos from the Star Wars standalone Han Solo movie ever since he took over the director’s chair in June. But the one tidbit he didn’t share? The film’s title.Until now. On Tuesday, Howard tweeted out a short video revealing the film’s title — with a little help from the furry arms of Han Solo’s co-pilot.Get your red plastic party cups out — the title is the perhaps-obvious ”Solo” (with ”A Star Wars Story” pinned on, just in case you thought it really was about the drinking cups).
