PC gamers recently encountered an unexpected issue when their computers triggered Windows Defender alerts due to a kernel-level driver called WinRing0. This software, used by various hardware monitoring applications, was flagged as a potential threat, causing some systems to behave erratically.
For instance, fan control applications were affected, leading to fans running at high speeds after the tool was quarantined. However, this was not an actual attack but rather a false alarm caused by Windows Defender detecting WinRing0 in apps like Fan Control, Razer Synapse, SteelSeries Engine, and others.

Apple this year introduced C1, its first in-house 5G modem, with the iPhone 16e. However, the company isn’t expected to bring its own modem to more expensive iPhones until at least next year. Analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities has now corroborated this rumor by saying that Apple is working on a new version of its modem for the iPhone 18 Pro models.
Apple’s plans for its 5G modem in the iPhone 18 Pro
In a note to investors seen by 9to5Mac, the analyst says he expects Apple to put the “C2” chip in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in 2026. This aligns with a recent Bloomberg report about C2 coming next year to “higher-end iPhones.”

Google announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wiz for $32 billion, subject to closing adjustments, in an all-cash transaction. Once closed, Wiz will join Google Cloud.

This acquisition represents an investment by Google Cloud to accelerate two large and growing trends in the AI era: improved cloud security and the ability to use multiple clouds.
Both cybersecurity and cloud computing are growing industries with a vast range of solutions. The increased role of AI, and adoption of cloud services, have changed the security landscape for customers, making cybersecurity increasingly important in defending against emergent risks and protecting national security.

While the iPhone 17 series is still around six months away, a rumor pertaining to next year’s iPhone 18 series has already surfaced.

In a research note with investment firm GF Securities today, analyst Jeff Pu said the A20 chip for the iPhone 18 models will be manufactured with TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, known as N3P. That is the same process that is expected to be used for the A19 and A19 Pro chips coming in the iPhone 17 models, so the iPhone 18 models could have relatively small overall performance improvements compared to the previous generation.
