If it wasnt for one particular executive at Microsoft, whom Steve Jobs seemingly hated with a passion, Apple may never have created the iPhone or iPad.Recounting the story of the birth of the iPhone at a talk at the Computer History Museum in California, former Apple iOS chief Scott Forstall said: The iPhone had a very circuitous route. Wed been working on a tablet project. It began because Steve hated this guy at Microsoft. Any time Steve had any interaction with the guy, hed come back pissed off.The unnamed Microsoft executive, who was apparently the husband of a friend of Jobss wife Laurene Powell Jobs, continuously talked and bragged about Redmond-based companys plans for tablets and styluses, so much so that Jobs decided to try and beat him. After being badgered by the Microsoft executive over dinner for the 10th time, being told how Microsoft was going to change the world with its tablet PC software and stylus and that Apple should just license it, Jobs lost patience and, as recounted in Walter Isaacsons Jobs biography, said: Fuck this, lets show him what a tablet can really be.

A UK hacker has been jailed for stealing almost £100,000 from a bank by exploiting a bug in the bank’s online banking system.James Ejankowski, who’s 24, defrauded Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banking Group of more than £99,000 in December 2016.He spent the money on a BMW, a Range Rover and tattoos for his face.He lied to his family that he had won the money on a scratchcard, according to the prosecutor.Ejankowski, formerly of Guisborough but now of Clarence Road, Bridlington, discovered that if he used the Clydesdale Bank’s online banking software to transfer notional funds between his current account and his savings account between midnight and 01:00, the transaction would work and the bank would not find out.”For one hour there was a credit balance in his account even though he did not have any money,” Prosecutor Shaun Dryden told Teesside Crown Court on Monday, according to the Teesside Evening Gazette.

Global electronics makers are scrambling to stock up on memory chips to keep production lines running as Apple Inc’s (AAPL.O) new iPhone 8 launch later this year threatens to worsen a global squeeze on supply. While heavyweights such as Apple and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) – whoch is also the world’s top memory chip maker – will not be seriously hit, industry sources and analysts say some electronics makers are paying a premium to lock into longer-term contracts.Others are placing orders earlier than before to ensure their perilously low inventories do no dry up completely.”After the supply shortages emerged we brought forward our procurement decisions … to ensure a stable supply,” smartphone and personal computer maker LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) said in a statement, adding it had pushed up quarterly purchase decisions by about a month.Chip manufacturing technologies are growing increasingly complex, raising investment costs yet providing less output growth as some suppliers struggle to improve yields. This has caused some chip prices to double or triple from a year earlier.
