“No One Asked for This Reboot”: ‘Tron’ May Mark End of Jared Leto’s Franchise-Leading Days

There he stood, in a red raincoat draped dramatically over a white suit, perched 30 feet above Piccadilly Circus for the Oct. 1 London premiere of Tron: Ares. What was Jared Letodoing up there, greeting his public like some interstellar overlord?

Drumming up excitement for his latest blockbuster release, of course. The stunt was straight out of the Leto playbook — involving bombast, tall buildings and shoulder-length hair jostled by the elements — but didn’t succeed at its primary mission: driving audiences to theaters.

Eddy Cue on Why Apple Dropped the ’+’ from Apple TV

Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue recently appeared on The Town podcast with Matt Belloni, offering a rare look into the company’s Hollywood strategy, the recent rebranding of its streaming service, and its future plans for theatrical releases and sports.

Speaking on the podcast, Cue confirmed the rebranding from Apple TV+ to simply Apple TV, explaining the original logic behind the name. ”We put the plus on it because it was an add-on to the TV app,” Cue said, noting that the ”+” sign is typically reserved for services with both free and paid tiers, like iCloud+. He added that since everyone referred to it as Apple TV anyway, ”it was a great time to just simplify it.”

A New Attack Lets Hackers Steal 2-Factor Authentication Codes From Android Phones

ANDROID DEVICES ARE vulnerable to a new attack that can covertly steal two-factor authentication codes, location timelines, and other private data in less than 30 seconds.

The new attack, named Pixnapping by the team of academic researchers who devised it, requires a victim to first install a malicious app on an Android phone or tablet. The app, which requires no system permissions, can then effectively read data that any other installed app displays on the screen. Pixnapping has been demonstrated on Google Pixel phones and the Samsung Galaxy S25 phone and likely could be modified to work on other models with additional work. Google released mitigations last month, but the researchers said a modified version of the attack works even when the update is installed.

Apple to Build New Home Robot and Smart Display in Vietnam [Report]

Apple is preparing to manufacture its upcoming lineup of smart home devices in Vietnam, a significant move for a new product category that underscores the company’s ongoing effort to lessen its dependence on China. The new hardware includes indoor security cameras, a smart display to serve as a home command hub, and a more advanced tabletop robot, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

For the home hub and the robot, Apple is reportedly teaming up with BYD Co. to handle final assembly, testing, and packaging. The Chinese firm, best known for its electric vehicles, will also expand its manufacturing of iPads in Vietnam as part of the new arrangement. The expansion highlights Vietnam’s growing importance as a production center for Apple, which already builds some AirPods, Apple Watches, and Macs in the country.
