VLC 3.0.20 is a medium update to VLC’s 3.0 branch: it updates codecs, fixes a FLAC quality issue and improves playback of numerous formats including improved subtitles rendering. It also fixes a freeze when using frame-by-frame actions and a few minor security issues. On macOS, audio layout problem for 5.1 and 7.1 setups are resolved. Finally, we update the user interface translations and add support for Esperanto, Interlingue, Lao, Macedonian, Burmese, Odia, Samoan and Swahili.
Disney is buying the rest of Hulu from Comcast, the company has announced. It will acquire the 33 percent of Hulu Comcast still controls and expects to pay NBC Universal approximately $8.61 billion for the deal, though the final amount will be determined after an appraisal that will be wrapping up sometime next year. As The New York Times notes, the companies had agreed back in 2019 that Comcast could force Disney to buy its stake by next year and Disney could require Comcast to sell. The cable TV and media company chose to speed up negotiations with Disney instead of waiting until 2024.
LONDON, Nov 1 (Reuters) – Apple Inc (AAPL.O) on Wednesday lost a bid to block a mass London lawsuit worth up to $2 billion which accuses the tech giant of hiding defective batteries in millions of iPhones.
The lawsuit was brought by British consumer champion Justin Gutmann on behalf of around 24 million iPhone users in the United Kingdom.
Gutmann is seeking damages from Apple on their behalf of up to 1.6 billion pounds ($1.9 billion) plus interest, with the claim’s midpoint range being 853 million pounds.
His lawyers argued Apple concealed issues with batteries in certain phone models by “throttling” them with software updates and installed a power management tool which limited performance.
Despite beating Wall Street estimates for the quarter, Apple’s whole-year revenue has dropped year-over-year for the first time since 2019.
As part of its quarterly earnings report, Apple posted annual gross revenue of $383.29 billion. This figure is down 2.8% year over year from $394.33 billion.
That’s a bigger drop than 2019, when Apple saw a 2% year-over-year reduction.
Apple’s annual gross margin also shrank, dropping to $169.15 billion. This is a 1% year-over-year drop from $170.78 billion.
