A former Twitter security executive sued Elon Musk and X Corp. yesterday, alleging that he was unlawfully fired for objecting to steep budget cuts implemented shortly after Musk bought the social network.

Alan Rosa, who was fired on December 6, 2022, “was Head of Global Information Technology and Information Security and worked remotely for Twitter performing the majority of his job duties from his home in New Jersey,” said the lawsuit filed in US District Court for the District of New Jersey. He also sometimes worked in Twitter’s New York and California offices.

Rosa was required to resolve his claims through arbitration and says that he filed a demand for arbitration in April 2023 and paid his arbitration filing fee. Rosa alleges that “Twitter has refused to pay its portion of the arbitration fees despite being ordered by JAMS [Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services] to do so.”

“On August 21, 2023, September 20, 203 [sic], and December 4, 20023 [sic], JAMS advised the parties that if the fee is not paid, the file will be closed,” Rosa’s lawsuit said. “Defendants never responded to these emails and never paid their portion of the arbitration fee.”

Facebook’s parent company has begun rolling out end-to-end encryption across Messenger and Facebook, Meta announced on Thursday.

The company’s vice-president for Messenger, Loredana Crisan, said the encryption was built on the Signal protocol and Meta’s own Labyrinth protocol.

Crisan said the new features announced as part of the rollout took years to develop because the company’s engineers, designers, cryptographers and others rebuilt the app from the ground up.

A former executive at Twitter, now called X, has filed a lawsuit claiming he was fired for objecting to budget cuts after Elon Musk acquired the company. The executive said Musk’s proposed slashing would prevent the company from complying with a US government settlement over its security practices.

Alan Rosa, who was Twitter’s global head of information security, filed the lawsuit late on Tuesday in New Jersey federal court, alleging breach of contract, wrongful termination and retaliation, among other claims. X Corp did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“Now, how long will this take? The Ukrainians behave like charlatans and we continue to pay,” reads a quote in French next to a picture of Taylor Swift on what looks like a promotional poster for an upcoming tour. “That is not right.”

“Every time the Ukrainians get money, everything goes wrong,” reads another quote in German next to a picture of Selena Gomez on what appears to be a page taken from a fashion magazine.
