iPhone 17 sales seem to spur AAPL stock growth

Apple reports its next quarterly earnings next week, when we’ll get the first official word on iPhone 17 sales.

But in the meantime, third-party reports keep indicating the latest iPhone lineup is proving a big hit for Apple.

US District Judge Phyllis Hamilton has reduced the damages Meta is getting from the NSO Group from $167 million to $4 million, but she has also ordered the Israeli spyware maker to stop targeting WhatsApp. If you’ll recall, Meta sued the NSO Group in 2019 over its Pegasus spyware, which it said was used to spy on 1,400 people from 20 countries, including journalists and human rights activists. People turn to Tor for strong privacy, to access censored content, or simply for a cleaner, more secure browsing experience. Adding AI features would only make it less secure.

The latest alpha release of the Tor Browser is now available for download. Version 15.0a4 introduces key security updates inherited from Firefox while making notable privacy-focused changes, including the removal of AI features Mozilla had been adding to its browser.

AI-generated images of extreme poverty, children and sexual violence survivors are flooding stock photo sites and increasingly being used by leading health NGOs, according to global health professionals who have voiced concern over a new era of “poverty porn”.

“All over the place, people are using it,” said Noah Arnold, who works at Fairpicture, a Swiss-based organisation focused on promoting ethical imagery in global development. “Some are actively using AI imagery, and others, we know that they’re experimenting at least.”

Arsenii Alenichev, a researcher at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp studying the production of global health images, said: “The images replicate the visual grammar of poverty – children with empty plates, cracked earth, stereotypical visuals.”
