With the release of Chrome 71 last December, Google started to filter ads in North America and Europe on sites that repeatedly displayed abusive advertisements. Today, Google has announced that they will be expanding their ad filter to the rest of the world starting on July 9th 2019.
When filtering ads, Chrome follows the Better Ads Standards to determine if a site is displaying abusive ad experiences. Examples of abusive ads include pop-up ads, auto-play video with sound, prestitial ads, and large sticky ads. A full list of the least liked and abusive ads under the Better Ads Standards can be seen below.
