Facebook apologizes for overstating key ad metric
Facebook Inc on Friday apologized for an error in the way it measured a key metric of video viewership that significantly amplified users’ viewing times on its platform.The social media giant had said a few weeks ago that a metric for average user time on videos was artificially inflated as it only counted videos viewed for over three seconds.At the time, Facebook had said that the “discrepancy” did not impact advertising billings and introduced newer metrics to replace the previous method.Facebook has made a significant strides into video, whoch has attracted significant advertising interest and has benefited from the shift in advertising spending toward the internet and other mobile platforms.Revenue from advertising was the biggest driver to company’s total revenue in the latest quarter, surging 63 percent to $6.24 billion.”While this is only one of the many metrics marketers look at, we take any mistake seriously,” David Fischer, vice president of business and marketing partnership at Facebook, said in a post on Friday.

Twitter initiates talks with tech companies over sale
Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) has initiated talks with several technology companies to explore selling itself, a person familiar with the matter said on Friday, signaling the start of what is likely to be a slow-rolling auction of the high-profile but money-losing social media company.A sale of Twitter has been the subject of on-again, off-again rumors for many months as the company grapples with stagnant user growth, soft advertising sales and losses running at hundreds of millions of dollars a year.The company’s business struggles have come even as the 10-year-old service has evolved into a potent global source of news, entertainment and social commentary.CNBC, citing anonymous sources, reported on Friday that Twitter is in talks with companies including Google (GOOGL.O) and may receive a formal bid soon. A source told Reuters that Salesforce.com (CRM.N) is also in pursuit.

Rhinos without Borders is a partnership between Great Plains Foundation and &Beyond. Rhinos Without Borders program is relocating rhinos on a scale never before seen, moving 100 of them from the highest-density poaching areas in South Africa to the safest regions in Botswana. Three calves have already been born to the relocated rhinos. Protecting them will lead to a thriving ecosystem that affects all animals around the rhinos, right down to the lowly dung beetle. Its a model the organization hopes to expand across Africa.

Hackare som hjälpt Daesh dömd till 20 års fängelse
En 20-årig hackare från Kosovo har dömts till 20 års fängelse för att ha lämnat över information om amerikanska medborgare till mördsakten Daesh.
Tjugoåringen lyckades att ta sig in i datorsystemen tillhörande en stor amerikansk butikskedja och där komma över konton tillhörande konton. Informationen filtrerades och kunder som var anställda hos mexikanska myndigheter plockades ut. Informationen skickades sedan över till en an nyckelpersonerna inom Daesh, en 21-årig hackare, född och uppvuxen i Storbritannien. Tjugoettåringen ledde en grupp av hackare inom Daesh som attackerat myndighetssajter och som legat bakom en rad intrång.
Dödats
Tjugoettåringen tros ha dödats vid en drönarattack som riktats mot honom genomförd av USA för mer än ett år sedan. Den nu dömde tjugoåringen upprättade egna dödslistor som han publicerade på nätet. Listor på amerikanska medborgare, anställda av amerikanska myndigheter. Mannen greps i oktober förra året i Malaysia då han försökte ta sig tillbaka till Kosovo.

Säkerhetsbrist i iOS 10
Det finns en allvarlig säkerhetsbrist i nya iOS 10 uppger det ryska företaget Elcomsoft som gör att säkerhetskopior kan knäckas lättare än vad som är fallet med krypterade och skyddande säkerhetskopior gjorda med iOS 9.
Noterbart är att Elcomsoft har valt att dra till sig uppmärksamhet och reklam i första hand istället för att först ta kontakt med Apple, lämna över informationen, och sedan när buggen och bristen är åtgärdad offentliggöra informationen – som ett seriöst företag skulle ha agerat.
We discovered a major security flaw in the iOS 10 backup protection mechanism. This security flaw allowed us developing a new attack that is able to bypass certain security checks when enumerating passwords protecting local (iTunes) backups made by iOS 10 devices.
The impact of this security weakness is severe. An early CPU-only implementation of this attack (available in Elcomsoft Phone Breaker 6.10) gives a 40-times performance boost compared to a fully optimized GPU-assisted attack on iOS 9 backups.

Apple har, enligt Elcomsoft, bytt krypterings- och skydd för gjorda säkerhetskopior vilket kan utgöra en risk, speciellt om du gör kopior lokalt i din dator med iTunes. Stjäls din dator eller om någon obehörig kommer över din säkerhetskopia så kan den knäckas och obehöriga kan komma över informationen.
Nu ska risken inte överdrivas. Har du kopior lokalt så måste din dator eller säkerhetskopian stjälas. Använder du Apples iCloud så utgör den hör bristen bara en brist om någon kommer över dina kopia via Apple.
